Summary

Evie is disillusioned about love ever since her dad left her mum for another woman - she's even throwing out her beloved romance novel collection。

When she's given a copy of a book called Instructions for Dancing, and follows a note inside to a dilapidated dance studio, she discovers she has a strange and unwelcome gift。 When a couple kisses in front of her, she can see their whole relationship play out - from the moment they first catch each other's eye to the last bitter moments of their break-up。

For Evie, it confirms everything she thinks she knows about love - that it doesn't last。

But at the dance studio she meets X - tall, dreadlocked, fascinating - and they start to learn to dance, together。 Can X help break the spell that Evie is under? Can he change Evie's mind about love?

The ending was rude and I feel betrayed。 Miss Yoon can never give you a HEA without it having a twist or being bittersweet。 This was a really cute YA book tho and such a fast read!

So beautiful! This story sneaks up on you and wins you over just before it breaks your heart in the best way。 There is a lot of love, pain and hope。

This was my favorite of Nicola's works so far。 I also appreciate how she always incorporates the fact that others even just bystanders affect the main characters lives。 I also liked the dancing in the book, but sadly as the characters say you can't learn to dance just from a book。 This was my favorite of Nicola's works so far。 I also appreciate how she always incorporates the fact that others even just bystanders affect the main characters lives。 I also liked the dancing in the book, but sadly as the characters say you can't learn to dance just from a book。 。。。more

“It doesn’t matter that love ends; it just matters that there’s love。” Swoon。 I’m clearly a sucker for a good dance story。 ❤️💃🏻🕺

This may be a 5 star but I need to sit on it。 The first half was an adorable and unexpected teen love story。 The second half dug way deeper than I thought we would be going! A lot of great life and love quotes。 I really enjoyed this book!

I read this in less than 24 hrs。 I ate this story up and it crushed me and had me crying。 Definitely a sweet YA story。

This book started as a very slow read for me。 I didn't particularly care about any of the characters, I wasn't on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happened next, and I actually had to force myself to keep reading it。 I'm really glad I finished it, though, because it was very different from the typical YA romance I was expecting。 The basic premise of the book is that the main character, Yvette, suddenly gets the ability to see a couple's entire love story if she sees them kiss - how t This book started as a very slow read for me。 I didn't particularly care about any of the characters, I wasn't on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happened next, and I actually had to force myself to keep reading it。 I'm really glad I finished it, though, because it was very different from the typical YA romance I was expecting。 The basic premise of the book is that the main character, Yvette, suddenly gets the ability to see a couple's entire love story if she sees them kiss - how their relationship began, a highlight reel of their special moments, and how their relationship will end。 Yvette is already skeptical about love after her parents' recent divorce, but this ability to see into the future destroys her faith in love completely。 All she sees are the losses, heartbreaks, and deaths that end these relationships。 But luckily about two-thirds of the way through, Yvette starts to notice all of the beautiful moments, too。 Overall, the characters felt cliche and lacking personality: Leading Man is just SO SEXY because of course he is, Older Sister is SO BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED AT EVERYTHING because of course she is, etc。 I was bothered by how quickly things were restored to normal / brushed aside with regard to Yvette's parents and infidelity, especially with how much Yvette was pressured to forgive and move on。 And the ending is bittersweet, so don't read this when you need something light and cheerful。 But I'm still glad I read this for some reason。 I like the whole concept of exploring what it's like to know the future - how it messes with your mind and affects your relationships with others who don't know what's going to happen。 It's left me with a lot to think about, and I can't complain about that! 。。。more

I listened to this one and thought it was a very interesting and unique story。 I’ve read Nicola Yoon’s “Everything, Everything” and seen the adaptation of “The Sun is Also a Star” and I love how apart from the teen romance aspect of her books, they’re all distinct。 Like other reviewers said, this one broke my heart。 I didn’t see the twist coming, but it was incredibly well done。

OMG。 i loved this book。 i’m not sure i can re-read i don’t need another heartbreak。 unfortunately 🥲the ending was perfect and i’m insanely happy there was no epilogue!

4。5 starsAhhhh I just loved this book so much。 Finished it in just a couple of hours。 I loved getting to know the characters and watch them develop while they learned some of life's hardest lessons。 I just adore everything Nicola Yoon does and will continue to pick up her books without question。 4。5 starsAhhhh I just loved this book so much。 Finished it in just a couple of hours。 I loved getting to know the characters and watch them develop while they learned some of life's hardest lessons。 I just adore everything Nicola Yoon does and will continue to pick up her books without question。 。。。more

Nicola Yoon has done it again。 I loved the black romance and the culture that was implanted into this book。 It was chefs kiss。 Not to mention the snarky jokes that had me laughing。 Fifi was my favorite character。

Evie is stronger than me。 I will not excuse the execution, which started to fail towards the end, but I really appreciate what this book tries to promote。 Reading this, I kept thinking "How is it going to resolve itself?" and I like that it did not use magic to make everything make sense。Evie, by all accounts, was a tragic character。 She had to go through her dad's cheating and divorce and having to see so many people's love endings。 My heart went to her so many times and for me it even made lit Evie is stronger than me。 I will not excuse the execution, which started to fail towards the end, but I really appreciate what this book tries to promote。 Reading this, I kept thinking "How is it going to resolve itself?" and I like that it did not use magic to make everything make sense。Evie, by all accounts, was a tragic character。 She had to go through her dad's cheating and divorce and having to see so many people's love endings。 My heart went to her so many times and for me it even made little sense how easily she fell for X with barely thinking all that she knows。But Evie grows and goes back and forth in a relatable way, though in some ways I wanted more deep exploration into some situations that were complicated。 Towards the end, we get a more human look to everyone and that is when you understand that life is life and you have to move along with it。Yet, there is still this power。 How can you trust again if everywhere you look, you see the end? The main focus of the book was to look jnto the now, if you are enjoying yourself now or if you enjoyed yourself in the past, does this disappear when it is all gone? No。 But if you can see the end, can you truly commit yourself? Can you truly give yourself away to something with guaranteed ending date? I don't think I can and I don't think the book handled it as good as much as I would like, but I envy people that could really relate to this book。I did not talk much about the characters and stories, but somehow I feel it is not needed as the core of the book lied elsewhere。 But I will say that most characters were very realistic one way or another, even if the plot of the book is just too random to hold out。 。。。more
